Cause of the Jajpur Bus Accident Today that Claimed Two Lives and Injured 15
The driver and cleaner of a private bus were killed and 15 passengers sustained injuries when a Puri-bound private bus hit a truck in Odisha’s Jajpur district. According to local authorities, the impact of the Jajpur bus accident today was such that the bus immediately caught fire after the collision.
Jajpur, May 8: A Puri-bound private bus rammed into a cement truck in the wee hours of the morning in Odisha’s Jajpur district. According to the local police, the incident happened at around 3:45 on National Highway Number 16, near Kandhei Chhak under Barchana police limits.
The driver and the cleaner of the bus were killed on the spot and 15 other passengers sustained serious injuries. Seven individuals are in critical condition and have been transferred to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The bus was traveling at high speed and the impact of the accident caused it to catch fire immediately.
Sarat Patra, Inspector-In-Charge of Barchana Police Station, stated, “The accident took place at approximately 3:45 am. Upon receiving the information, the night patrol, NH patrolling team, and police station staff promptly responded. The bus, carrying around 60 passengers, caught fire post-collision. Fire services department personnel were immediately summoned, and two bodies were recovered from the wreckage.”
According to the Barchana Police, the Volvo bus involved in the accident was traveling from Kolkata to Puri and was ferrying around 50 passengers.

Cause of the Jajpur Bus Accident Today
Initial assessments suggest that the bus driver may have succumbed to drowsiness, resulting in the collision with the truck.

The vehicle has been seized and the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

Significantly, this is the second major bus accident in Odisha’s Jajpur district within the last 30 days.
Earlier on April 16, a bus carrying approximately 47 passengers veered off a bridge on National Highway-16 killing five passengers, including a woman, and left around 35 others injured.
The bus was en route from Puri to West Bengal when the accident transpired around 9 PM on the Barabati bridge. According to a senior transport department official, the primary cause of the accident was attributed to the driver’s negligence.
