In a tragic turn of events, a horrifying incident unfolded in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, as a bus transporting wedding attendees tragically caught fire upon encountering a high-tension wire.

The Ghazipur bus accident took place near Mahahar Dham of the Mardah police station, resulting in the loss of lives of at least 5 individuals and causing severe burn injuries to numerous others.

The CNG bus transporting 38 members of a wedding entourage, was on its way to a marriage ceremony from Mau when the tragic incident unfolded.

Cause of the Ghazipur Bus Accident

As per statements from SHO Dharmendra Kumar Pandey, the bus ignited upon coming into contact with the high-tension electric line, as per a report by news agency PTI.

While traversing along a rural canal track, the bus inadvertently made contact with a low-hanging overhead wire carrying a staggering 11,000 volts of electricity.

Tragically, the bus became engulfed in flames, and despite valiant efforts, the fire could not be extinguished before consuming the entire vehicle.

Local residents assembled at the scene in significant numbers but refrained from approaching the burning bus, reportedly equipped with CNG cylinders, due to safety concerns and apprehensions.

Casualties

Initial reports suggest that there were around 20 individuals on board at the time of the harrowing incident.

Regrettably, all the passengers aboard the bus could not flee the inferno.

According to the latest update by Dainik Jagaran, the death toll in the Ghazipur bus accident has risen to 10, although this figure has yet to be officially confirmed.

The identities of the passengers remain unconfirmed as the bus was reduced to ashes in the Ghazipur bus accident.

District Information Officer Rakesh Kumar confirmed that relief and rescue operations are currently in progress, with the district magistrate and other senior officials arriving at the scene.

UP CM Announces Ex-Gratia

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep distress over the Ghazipur bus accident and has announced financial aid for the victims.

He extended financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 50 thousand to the seriously injured, along with ensuring their free medical treatment.

Several Officials Suspended

Following the Ghazipur bus accident at Mardah police station, the Minister for Urban Development & Energy, UP Govt., arrived at the scene late at night.

In light of apparent negligence, the Minister suspended several individuals involved and mandated the termination of service for contract linemen.

The Minister has issued directives to suspend Power Distribution Division Executive Engineer Manish Kumar, SDO Santosh Chaudhary, JE Pradeep Kumar Rai, and terminate the service of Lineman Narendra, a contractual worker.
