Ashok Leyland Joins Hands With Union Bank of India to Simplify Commercial Vehicle Financing

Ashok Leyland has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Union Bank of India (UBI) to offer customised financing solutions to customers purchasing its trucks and buses. The partnership will provide vehicle loans with flexible repayment options, aiming to improve access to commercial vehicle financing for businesses and fleet operators.
The MoU was signed by Neelakantan, Vice President–Finance, Ashok Leyland, and Alok Kumar, General Manager and Zonal Head, Union Bank of India, in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations.
Expanding Access to Commercial Vehicle Financing
Under the agreement, Union Bank of India will provide end-to-end financing solutions tailored to customer requirements. The partnership will leverage the bank’s network to support buyers looking to acquire Ashok Leyland commercial vehicles.
For fleet operators, financing terms can influence vehicle acquisition decisions, fleet replacement cycles and expansion plans. Access to customised loans and manageable repayment options can help businesses align vehicle purchases with their operational requirements and cash flows.
K M Balaji, Whole-Time Director and Chief Financial Officer, Ashok Leyland, said the partnership would strengthen access to the company’s commercial vehicle portfolio.

Supporting Fleet Operators and Businesses
The partnership also reflects the importance of financing in commercial vehicle sales, where the initial cost of acquiring a truck or bus is a key consideration for buyers. For operators, the decision involves not only the vehicle’s capabilities but also the financing structure and its impact on overall ownership costs.
Madhavi Deshmukh, Senior Vice President–National Sales Head, Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Ashok Leyland, said the collaboration would help make the company’s vehicles more accessible.
“Our partnership with Union Bank of India is a significant step towards making our commercial vehicles more accessible with attractive and convenient financing solutions. Together, we aim to empower fleet operators and businesses with greater financial flexibility.”

For Union Bank of India, the arrangement creates an opportunity to extend its commercial vehicle financing offering to Ashok Leyland customers. Alok Kumar, General Manager and Zonal Head, Union Bank of India, said the partnership would focus on accessible, customer-centric financing to simplify vehicle ownership and support business growth.
Implications for the Commercial Vehicle Industry
Financing partnerships between vehicle manufacturers and banks can help connect product availability with access to credit, an important consideration for businesses investing in trucks and buses. Flexible financing options can support purchasing decisions across applications ranging from goods transportation to passenger mobility.
Ashok Leyland offers a broad commercial vehicle portfolio, spanning light commercial vehicles, long-haul trucks and buses, including models powered by alternative fuels.
As operators look to expand fleets, replace ageing vehicles and evaluate newer technologies, access to financing will remain an important part of the commercial vehicle ownership equation. Partnerships such as this one could help improve the accessibility of trucks and buses while supporting fleet investment across India’s transport sector.
