GreenCell Mobility Raises ₹330 Crore from Impact Fund Denmark for Electric Bus Expansion

GreenCell Mobility has secured an equity investment of ₹330 crore from Impact Fund Denmark (IFDK) to support the deployment of around 4,500 electric buses across India. The investment will strengthen the company’s financial position as it scales its operations across intra-city and intercity transportation.
Announced on October 13, 2026, the investment is expected to support GreenCell Mobility’s plans to build a fleet of more than 5,000 electric buses across 105 cities in India.
Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell Mobility operates an electric mobility platform focused on deploying electric buses and developing charging infrastructure and other solutions across the e-mobility value chain.
Institutional Capital Backs GreenCell Mobility’s Expansion
The investment reflects the role of long-term institutional capital in supporting the expansion of electric public transport. Scaling operations across multiple cities requires substantial funding alongside the operational capabilities to manage large fleets and deliver consistent services.
Dhanpal Jhaveri, CEO of Eversource Capital, said, “Electric public mobility is moving from an emerging opportunity to an investable infrastructure asset class in India. GreenCell was created with that conviction – to build the operating capabilities and institutional scale needed to build an enduring business.”
He added that the investment from IFD demonstrates the depth of long-term institutional capital backing GreenCell Mobility. The next phase, he said, would focus on deploying the capital with discipline, expanding the business and strengthening its capabilities.
Focus on Fleet Deployment and Service Delivery
For electric bus operators, securing capital is only one part of the expansion process. Executing deployment plans while maintaining fleet reliability, operational efficiency and service quality will be equally important as networks grow.
GreenCell Mobility operates across both intra-city and intercity transportation. Its ability to execute its order book and manage increasingly complex operations will be central to converting its planned fleet expansion into operational capacity.
Devndra Chawla, MD and CEO of GreenCell Mobility, said, “We have established a strong presence across both intra-city and intercity transportation, with the operating experience to manage increasingly large and complex deployment.”
“Our focus is on executing our order book with rigour, strengthening service delivery and ensuring that the organisation keeps pace with the size and complexity of our operations. This equity investment gives us greater headroom to accelerate our plans while maintaining the standards of reliability, efficiency and customer experience that are fundamental to our business.”

GreenCell Mobility also acknowledged the continued support of its existing investors, including Eversource Capital, IFC, BII and Tata Capital, as it welcomed IFD as a shareholder.
Impact Fund Denmark Sees Opportunity in India’s Electric Mobility Market
The investment also brings an international institutional investor into GreenCell Mobility’s shareholder base. For Impact Fund Denmark, the opportunity combines exposure to India’s growing electric mobility market with the potential environmental benefits of reducing emissions from transportation.
“India is a central market for Impact Fund Denmark. GreenCell is a strong investment opportunity in a rapidly growing market, while also addressing one of India’s major challenges air pollution.”
Lars Bo Bertram, CEO of Impact Fund Denmark
He added that scaling electric transportation could contribute to cleaner cities and accelerate India’s green transition.
What the Investment Means for India’s Electric Bus Sector
GreenCell Mobility’s planned expansion highlights the scale of investment required to grow electric bus operations across India. As deployments increase, the challenge extends beyond acquiring vehicles to building the operational systems, service networks and charging infrastructure needed to support them.
The ₹330 crore equity investment provides GreenCell Mobility with additional capital to pursue its deployment plans. The next milestone will be execution: translating the planned rollout into operational buses while maintaining service standards across its growing network.
For the wider electric bus industry, investments of this scale underline the importance of institutional funding in supporting the transition from individual fleet deployments to large, multi-city electric mobility operations.
