Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: A tragic accident occurred at 5:15 AM today when a private sleeper bus carrying 57 passengers collided with a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra expressway.

The collision resulted in the deaths of 18 people and left 19 others injured. As per the local police, among the victims were three women and one child.

The accident occurred near the Jojikot village in the Behta Mujhawar police station area. The bus was traveling from Sitamarhi in Bihar to Delhi.

Visuals from the scene depict a grim aftermath with bodies on the ground, twisted metal, shattered glass, and destroyed belongings scattered around.

“Today at around 5:15 AM, a private bus coming from Motihari, Bihar, collided with a milk tanker. Eighteen people have lost their lives, and 19 others are injured in the Unnao bus accident,” said Gaurang Rathi, District Magistrate, Unnao.

The injured were promptly referred to the Unnao District Hospital for treatment.

Cause of the UP Bus Accident in Unnao

According to Gaurang Rathi, initial investigations suggest that the bus involved in the UP bus accident today was overspeeding and collided with the milk tanker from behind.

Survivors of the bus crash have alleged that the bus driver had been speeding throughout the journey, which resulted in the fatal accident.

The police are investigating the incident to ascertain the precise sequence of events leading to the accident.

Casualties of the Accident

Eighteen people have lost their lives, and 19 others are injured in the Unnao bus accident. The injured were shifted to the Unnao District Hospital for treatment.

According to Gaurang Rathi, District Magistrate, Unnao, 6 of the injured have been referred to the trauma center. A team of 14 doctors are attending to the injured.

“Apart from the 8 doctors from the District Hospital, an additional 6 doctors have been deployed from outside to attend to the injured,” he adds.

Twenty people escaped unharmed in the accident and have been relocated to Delhi.

The identification of the deceased has not been possible so far. Efforts are being made to identify the deceased based on tickets booked through the travel company.

Condolences and Aid After the UP Bus Accident

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow over the UP bus accident and instructed officials to provide the best possible care for the injured, according to a statement from his office.

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance for the Unnao bus accident victims. The families of those who died will receive Rs. 2 lakh each from the PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs. 50,000.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Unnao bus accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh.

“The news of the tragic road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the loss of many lives, is deeply saddening,” said the President in a social media post on X.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims who have suffered such sudden loss, and I pray for the swift recovery of those injured,” she added.

Survivors Recount Horror of UP Bus Crash, Blame Driver’s Overspeeding

Survivors of the devastating bus crash in Uttar Pradesh, which claimed 18 lives, are sharing their harrowing experiences. They allege that the bus driver had been speeding throughout the journey, contributing to the fatal accident.

Dilshad’s Ordeal

Dilshad, 17, a passenger on the ill-fated sleeper bus, recounted how the driver was speeding all night. He also lamented that after the accident, bystanders were more interested in recording videos than helping the injured.

“We were sleeping at the time of the accident and woke up to find ourselves trapped inside the bus. Those who reached the spot were busy recording videos instead of helping,” he said.

Dilshad lost six family members in the mishap: his father Ashfaq, mother Ruby, sister Gulnaz, uncle Sonu, aunt Soni, and three-year-old brother Suhail. They were seated on the left side of the bus, which was severely damaged in the collision.

Raushan’s Account

Another survivor, Raushan, who was traveling to Delhi with her daughter on the ‘Namaste Bihar’ bus, described the terrifying moment of the crash.

“We were both asleep when suddenly we heard a commotion as if there was a storm or hurricane. Somehow, my daughter and I managed to get out of the vehicle with someone’s help,” she recounted.
