The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is set to introduce electric AC buses to enhance connectivity between key religious cities in the state.

This initiative aims to provide eco-friendly and comfortable travel options for devotees visiting sacred sites.

In August 2023, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced plans to introduce pilgrimage-focused electric buses across Uttar Pradesh.

Routes

In the first phase, electric buses will operate on routes connecting Gorakhpur to Varanasi, Ayodhya, and other nearby districts.

These buses will cover distances of up to 200 kilometers on a single charge, ensuring efficient travel for passengers. The fleet will include 52-seater AC buses equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable journey.

Additionally, charging stations are being established in key locations such as Gorakhpur and Varanasi to support the operations of these electric buses.​

This move aligns with the state’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation solutions.

By integrating electric buses into the public transport system, the government aims to offer a greener alternative for pilgrims traveling between Uttar Pradesh’s prominent religious destinations.
