Tamil Nadu Floats Electric Bus Tender for 500 Low-Floor Buses
The Institute of Road Transport, Tamil Nadu has opened an electric bus tender for 500 low-floor electric buses. These buses will be distributed among the MTC and TNSTC divisions of Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.

The Institute of Road Transport, Tamil Nadu has invited tenders for 500 low-floor electric buses, each 12 meters in length, to improve public transport across the state. Both AC and non-AC variants will be available.
The State Transport Undertaking wise allocation of these buses is as follows:

Tamil Nadu’s Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) aims to provide a convenient and inclusive travel experience for senior citizens, parents with strollers, and persons with disabilities.
Hence, the focus is on low-floor buses that have a smooth, lowered entry, making them easy to board for everyone.
Several transport projects worth around Rs 7,492 crore are underway in Tamil Nadu, backed by financial aid from the German Development Bank. These projects, spread across five phases, are focused on introducing eco-friendly buses to the state.
The initiative begins with deploying electric buses in Chennai, with plans to expand the fleet to Coimbatore and Madurai through subsequent tenders.
This effort aligns with the state’s goal to enhance sustainable urban transport while reducing its environmental impact.
