SWITCH Mobility Unveils EiV9 Electric Bus at Prawaas 5.0

SWITCH Mobility has expanded its electric bus portfolio with the launch of the SWITCH Mobility EiV9, a new 9-metre electric bus designed for city transport, employee mobility, and school bus operations.
Unveiled at Prawaas 5.0, the new platform aims to address the growing demand for mid-size electric buses by combining lower operating costs, passenger comfort, and advanced safety technologies.
The launch comes as India’s 9-metre electric bus segment is expected to witness strong growth over the next few years, driven by increasing electrification of urban and institutional transport fleets.
According to SWITCH Mobility, the EiV9 has been developed to help fleet operators transition to electric mobility with lower total cost of ownership while maintaining operational flexibility across different duty cycles.
SWITCH Mobility EiV9 Specifications
The SWITCH Mobility EiV9 is powered by a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) motor producing up to 213 kW of peak power. Operators can choose from multiple battery pack configurations depending on route requirements, while regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 fast charging are designed to maximise vehicle uptime.
The bus features a lightweight architecture aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing running costs.
Passenger comfort has also been a key focus during development. The EiV9 offers a spacious cabin, front and rear air suspension, ergonomic seating, individual USB charging ports, and optional pushback seats for employee transportation applications.
On the safety front, the bus is equipped with a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), disc brakes on both axles, and an electric architecture engineered for reliable operation under varied operating conditions.

SWITCH Targets Growing 9-Metre Electric Bus Market
Speaking at the launch, Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the company sees strong growth potential in the 9-metre electric bus segment.
He noted that the market is projected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 34% through FY30, driven by increasing demand from public transport agencies, corporate mobility providers, and institutional fleet operators.
“The EiV9 has been purpose-built to deliver what operators value most: higher efficiency, superior passenger comfort, advanced safety and lower operating costs,” he said.
Alongside the vehicle launch, SWITCH Mobility also introduced its #SwitchKaro campaign, encouraging businesses and fleet operators to adopt electric mobility by highlighting the commercial and environmental benefits of EVs.
SWITCH EiV12 Intercity Also Displayed

In addition to the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility showcased its enhanced Switch EiV12 Intercity electric bus at Prawaas 5.0.
The upgraded coach features premium reclining seats, dual-gun DC fast charging, floor-mounted LFP batteries, digital ORVMs, and the company’s SWITCH iON connected vehicle platform for real-time diagnostics and fleet monitoring.
Why This Matters
The launch of the SWITCH Mobility EiV9 reflects the industry’s increasing focus on the 9-metre electric bus segment, which is emerging as a key category for urban transport, employee mobility, and school transportation.
As fleet operators prioritise lower operating costs and zero-emission mobility, manufacturers are expanding their product portfolios with purpose-built platforms tailored to different operational requirements.
