India’s bus industry is undergoing one of its biggest technological transformations. Fleet operators are no longer investing only in vehicles – they are embracing AI-powered safety, connected mobility, passenger engagement, and data-driven fleet intelligence to deliver safer, smarter, and more efficient journeys.

This evolution was clearly visible at Prawaas 5.0, where connected mobility emerged as one of the most discussed themes among bus operators, OEMs, and technology providers.

According to Ranjith Reddy, Co-Founder of AirFi, Prawaas 5.0 proved to be one of its most successful industry engagements, generating meaningful discussions with operators actively exploring AI-powered safety systems, connected fleet management, and passenger-focused technologies to modernise their operations.

Operators Seek Integrated Technology Platforms

AirFi observed growing interest in integrated technology platforms that combine multiple solutions under a single ecosystem rather than relying on different vendors for individual applications.

The company said discussions at its booth centred on AI-based Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Alcohol Breath Analyser, passenger counting cameras, GPS live tracking, onboard Wi-Fi, passenger entertainment, CCTV surveillance, and intelligent passenger announcement systems.

One of the exhibition’s standout innovations was AirFi’s AI-powered Alcohol Detection System, which prevents the bus from starting until the driver passes an alcohol test and facial verification, ensuring only an authenticated, sober driver can operate the vehicle.

“Many fleet operators were keen to understand how these technologies could help reduce accidents, improve fleet utilisation, simplify operations, and enhance passenger satisfaction.”

He further added that operators are increasingly prioritising solutions that deliver measurable improvements in both safety and operational performance.

Passenger Experience Becomes a Competitive Advantage

Beyond safety, believes passenger experience has emerged as a key differentiator in the intercity bus segment. As travellers increasingly expect connected journeys, operators are recognising the value of onboard Wi-Fi, infotainment, real-time communication, and intelligent announcement systems in improving customer satisfaction and encouraging repeat business.

“We witnessed a strong interest in unified fleet intelligence platforms that combine GPS tracking, live video, passenger analytics, fuel monitoring, and operational insights through a single dashboard, enabling operators to make faster, data-driven decisions.”

The exhibition also translated into significant commercial opportunities for AirFi. Reddy revealed that Prawaas 5.0 generated a strong business pipeline, with more than 60% of qualified leads progressing toward active commercial discussions, representing opportunities across nearly 2,000 premium night-service buses and 1,000 commercial trucks across India.

AirFi secured new business from leading operators including Shyamoli Paribahan, Humsafar Travels, Go-Tour Travels & Holidays, Raj Ratan Tours & Travels, and Laxmi Holidays.

In another development, VRL Travels has initiated trials of the company’s AI-powered Passenger Counting System and Passenger Announcement System, which is expected to support occupancy analysis, route planning, and operational efficiency and passenger experience for large fleets.

Looking ahead, AirFi expects AI-powered safety technologies, connected fleet intelligence, and passenger engagement platforms to become increasingly mainstream as India’s bus industry continues its transition towards smarter, safer, and more connected mobility.
