A tragic incident unfolded in Rajkot on Wednesday morning when a speeding electric bus operated by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation rammed into several vehicles and pedestrians at Indira Circle, resulting in at least four fatalities and multiple injuries.
Rajkot Bus Accident Details
The accident occurred around 10 AM when the bus, reportedly failing to stop at a traffic signal, collided with multiple two-wheelers and pedestrians.
The deceased have been identified as Raju Gida, Sangita Nepali, Kiran Kakkad, and Chinmay Bhatt. Suraj Raval, Vishal Makwana, and Virajba Khachar sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
An enraged crowd vandalized the bus after it came to a halt a short distance from the accident site. The driver, Shishupalsinh Rana, was also injured in the incident and has been hospitalized under police custody.

Cause of the Rajkot Electric Bus Accident
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2), Jagdish Bangarwa, confirmed the deaths and injuries, stating that an offense has been registered at Gandhigram police station.
The bus has been seized, and a mechanical inspection has been requested from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The driver’s blood sample has been taken to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver was unable to apply the brakes at the traffic signal, leading to the accident. Authorities are investigating the cause further.
In response to the tragedy, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹15 lakh to the families of the deceased.
The corporation has also pledged to review safety protocols and implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
This incident adds to a series of electric bus accidents in India, including the December 2024 Kurla bus accident in Mumbai, where an electric bus lost control and killed nine people.
These events highlight the urgent need for stringent safety measures and thorough training for electric bus drivers to ensure passenger and pedestrian safety.
