A horrific accident involving a speeding Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Airavata bus and a car near Tubinakere village, close to Mandya city, led to the tragic death of four family members on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Satyananda Raje Urs (59), his wife Nischita Urs (51), his brother Chandrashekar Raje Urs (62), and his wife Sumedini Rani (56). According to a report by the Indin Express, the family was on their way to attend a funeral in the nearby village of Seeguru.

The collision occurred when the car, driven by one of the family members, attempted to exit the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway onto a service road.

Cause of the KSRTC Accident

According to preliminary investigations by the Mandya police, the driver’s sudden maneuver likely caused the accident. The family was reportedly indecisive about whether to continue paying the toll, resulting in a dangerous lane change. As they tried to exit onto the service road, the car collided with the speeding KSRTC Airavata bus.

The police suspect the driver of the car didn’t anticipate the approach of the bus, and the crash was so intense that the car was completely mangled, resulting in the immediate deaths of all occupants.

A rescue team had to use a crane to separate the wreckage from the bus and recover the bodies, further complicating the traffic situation on the expressway.
