In an unexpected move, a Bengaluru-based CEO took a BMTC bus to work and was stunned that the fare was just ₹6.

Capitalmind CEO and founder, Deepak Shenoy, known for his insightful commentary on various subjects, including AI, food delivery apps, and travel, decided to swap his usual 30-minute walk to his Bengaluru office for a bus ride due to a recent knee injury.

What he didn’t anticipate was how affordable the bus ride would be.

Shenoy shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his surprise at the low cost of the bus fare, and he described it as “still stunned” that something as essential as transportation could be so inexpensive. “I took a bus for ₹6 today and walked 30 min to the office. I’m still stunned that there’s something that costs ₹6,” he wrote.

In addition to the affordable fare, Shenoy highlighted how modern technology has made public transport more convenient.

The BMTC bus he boarded had a UPI QR scanner, allowing him to pay for his ride seamlessly without the need for cash.

His post quickly gained traction, with many praising Shenoy for promoting public transport and encouraging others to consider it as a viable commuting option.

One social media user commented, “Public Transport, if promoted well, can transform the way Indians commute. Safety, reliability, and affordability are 3 key aspects of any successful public transport system.”

Others agreed, emphasizing that affordable public transport could be a game-changer for the poor and middle class, helping improve their quality of life.
