Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has launched a data analytics dashboard to monitor its feeder bus network, bringing real-time operational visibility to a service that connects commuters to metro stations across the city.

The system was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, Director (Systems) at KMRL, at the feeder bus terminal in Muttom.

What The Dashboard Does

The platform consolidates data from fare collection devices and telematics systems installed in feeder buses into a single interface.

Officials can monitor passenger numbers, ticket revenue, preferred payment modes, and GPS-tracked vehicle movements across all routes in real time.

The dashboard also displays battery levels of electric buses, helping operators intervene before mid-route power depletion becomes an issue.

Service And Passenger Insights

Beyond fleet tracking, the system captures gender-disaggregated travel data, allowing planners to study movement patterns across commuter groups.

Officials can also monitor delays and service frequency to ensure buses run on schedule.

Sanjay Kumar said the platform enables more accurate analysis of passenger behaviour and service performance, with real-time insights feeding directly into route planning decisions.

Gokul TG, Additional General Manager (Urban Transport) at KMRL, said the dashboard will help planners adjust service frequency based on actual demand rather than fixed assumptions.

The initiative is part of KMRL’s wider effort to integrate the metro, feeder buses, and Kochi Water Metro into a coordinated urban transport network.
