JBM GALAXY Electric Coach Debuts at Prawaas 5.0 With Sleeper-Seater Configurations

JBM Electric Vehicles has unveiled the next-generation GALAXY electric luxury coach at Prawaas 5.0, bringing sleeper, seater and sleeper-cum-seater configurations to India’s premium intercity electric bus segment.

Launched by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Gandhinagar, the new JBM GALAXY electric coach is aimed at long-distance intercity travel, with JBM focusing on passenger comfort, safety and operator economics.

The launch is significant because the GALAXY is not being positioned simply as another electric bus. JBM is targeting the premium coach market, where passenger experience, luggage capacity, operating utilisation and the ability to cover long daily schedules are increasingly important.

Three GALAXY Configurations for Intercity Operations

JBM says the GALAXY platform will be available in three configurations: seater, sleeper and sleeper-cum-seater.

The sleeper-cum-seater version is offered in two layouts. One combines 22 Maharaja reclining seats with 20 sleeper berths and an onboard washroom. The second has 24 reclining seats and 20 sleeper berths without a washroom.

JBM says the coach offers high seating capacity and luggage space for its segment, with the combination intended to improve passenger convenience while creating greater revenue potential for operators.

Designed Around Premium Passenger Experience

The GALAXY gets a European-inspired exterior design and a luxury-oriented cabin.

Passenger-focused equipment includes panoramic windows, individual AC louvers, reading lights and USB charging sockets, along with generous legroom and headroom.

JBM has also incorporated electronically controlled air suspension. The coach gets kneeling and height-adjustment functions intended to make boarding and alighting easier.

These details matter particularly in sleeper and premium intercity operations, where the quality of the onboard experience can influence passenger choice as much as the route itself.

ADAS and Other Safety Technologies

Safety is another major part of the GALAXY package.

The electric coach features an ADAS-enabled architecture, along with an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), hill-hold assistance, live surveillance cameras and emergency exits.

JBM has combined these systems with its electronically controlled air suspension to create a package aimed specifically at long-distance passenger operations.

More Than 900 Km of Daily Operation Demonstrated

One of the more notable claims around the GALAXY is its demonstrated operating capability.

JBM says the GALAXY platform has successfully demonstrated operations of more than 900 km in a day. This is an important figure for intercity operators because daily utilisation is directly linked to vehicle productivity.

However, this should not be interpreted as a claimed single-charge range. JBM’s announcement refers to daily operations, while the company has not publicly specified a single-charge range in the material reviewed for this launch.

The coach uses high-efficiency modular battery packs, fast-charging capability and regenerative braking.

JBM’s Growing Electric Bus Footprint

The GALAXY launch comes as JBM continues to expand its electric bus operations.

According to the company, JBM EV has deployed more than 3,300 electric buses across 17 states and over 12 major airports in India. It also reports an order book of more than 10,000 electric buses and an annual production capacity of 20,000 electric buses at its integrated facility in the Delhi-NCR region.

JBM also says its electric buses have accumulated 450 million electric kilometres and served more than 1.5 billion passenger commuters globally.

For JBM, the GALAXY therefore represents a move from electric city and institutional mobility into a more demanding part of the market: premium, long-distance intercity travel.

As India’s electric bus market expands beyond urban fleets, the real test for products such as GALAXY will be how effectively they combine passenger comfort, charging infrastructure, daily utilisation and operating economics on intercity routes.
