Switch, PMI and JBM to Deliver 2,000 Electric Buses in Delhi

In a significant stride towards sustainable urban transport, the Delhi government has recently partnered with 3 leading electric bus firms to get almost 2,000 electric buses in Delhi.

This includes 950 buses from Switch Mobility and 1,040 buses from PMI and the JBM Group.

Switch Mobility, a division of Hinduja Group’s renowned flagship company Ashok Leyland, has signed an agreement with the Delhi Government to deliver 950 12-meter electric buses in Delhi.

These buses will be procured under the National eBus Program.

Delhi Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra announced the landmark agreement on September 22, 2023 on social media.

“Delhi Government signs an agreement with SwitchMobility for 950 low-floor 12-meter electric buses under National eBus program,” he posted.

The move aligns with the government’s overarching vision to modernize and green the public transportation infrastructure.

As per sources, these 12-meter-long electric buses in Delhi are slated to commence operations within the next four to six months.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, in an official statement to PTI, expressed his optimism about this transformative move.

He emphasized that these electric buses are not only an eco-friendly alternative but will also enhance passenger safety and convenience.

These electric buses in Delhi will feature CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and GPS devices.

Gahlot further highlighted that Delhi now leads the nation in the adoption of electric buses, marking a milestone in the city’s commitment to combat air pollution and reduce carbon emissions.

JBM Group and PMI to Supply 1,040 Electric Buses in Delhi

On September 23, 2023, Kundra further announced the government’s strategic alliance with eBus manufacturers PMI and the JBM Group to procure an additional 1,040 electric buses in Delhi.

Unlike the 12-meter buses provided by Switch Mobility, these buses will be 9-meter electric buses, perfect for city operations.

These collaborations signify a pivotal moment in Delhi’s transportation landscape, setting the stage for a cleaner, more efficient, and technologically advanced public transit system.

On September 7, 2023, Delhi added 400 electric buses that were delivered by Tata Motors Limited through its subsidiary, TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd.

This took the number of electric buses in Delhi as of September 2023 to 800 buses.

Even if Switch Mobility delivers half of its 950 buses this year, Delhi will have around 1,500 electric buses in its fleet by the end of 2024.
