The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced plans to install digital boards at bus stops, introducing a ‘Bus Information System’ to enhance public transportation in the city.

This system will monitor bus locations in real-time and provide accurate arrival times, making daily commuting more efficient and convenient.

Officials stated that the initiative will improve the experience for passengers by keeping them informed about bus schedules and distances.

The GHMC and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) are working on implementing GPS trackers in state-owned buses, which will integrate with these digital boards to enhance travel convenience.

The project will be executed through a public-private partnership, with funding generated solely from advertisement revenue. The GHMC has established around 1,500 bus stops across key roads, while the RTC operates approximately 3,000 buses, catering to nearly 20 lakh commuters daily.

As part of a broader effort to modernize public transport infrastructure, the GHMC plans to revamp bus stops across Hyderabad.

The engineering department is leading the construction of new bus shelters with advanced features, inspired by modern transport systems like those in London. These upgraded bus stops will provide shelter along with real-time updates on bus schedules, routes, and estimated arrival times through digital displays.
