Delhi Inducts 320 Electric Buses | Total 1970 E-buses in Fleet
Electric Bus News: Delhi added 320 electric buses to its public transportation fleet on Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,970 such buses. The new air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses will be differently-abled-friendly and equipped with GPS, CCTV, and panic buttons, all connected to a two-way centralized command and control center.
Delhi has been rapidly electrifying its public transport fleet in recent years to combat its perennial problem with air pollution.
The Delhi government has set an ambitious aim to have a robust fleet of 8,000 electric buses by 2025.
Taking a significant step closer to achieving this goal, the ruling AAP government added 320 electric buses to Delhi’s public transport system on July 30.
The new air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses will be differently-abled-friendly and equipped with GPS, CCTV, and panic buttons, all connected to a two-way centralized command and control center.
“As part of the commitment made by the government led by CM Arvind Kejriwal to increase the number of electric buses in Delhi, 320 electric buses have been flagged. It will take the number of e-buses to 1,970,” said Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.
Delhi has already distinguished itself as the city with the highest number of electric buses in India, and it ranks third globally for the same.
“Previously, Delhi’s roads had blue line buses running on diesel. Then CNG buses were introduced in Delhi, and now electric buses are being launched. Our effort is to replace CNG buses with electric buses,” Gahlot added.

Electric Bus Expansion Focal Point in Delhi’s Incumbent Budget
In line with its commitment to sustainable public transport, Delhi has been proactively expanding its electric bus fleet.
The expansion of this electric bus fleet is a focal point in Delhi’s budget for 2024-25, which includes a significant investment of Rs 510 crore.
“At present, Delhi boasts a fleet of 7,582 buses, catering to the daily commute of over 41 lakh passengers. To further bolster this fleet, a concession agreement has been inked for the procurement of 1,900 new e-buses,” said Finance Minister Atishi during her budget presentation in March 2024.
Along with Commissioner Transport took stock of the arrangements being made at Baansera Park for flag off of 320 new Electric Buses tomorrow.
