In response, MTC Chennai addressed the issue on Twitter, reassuring passengers that UPI payments are available on all MTC buses across all depots.

The transport corporation emphasized that regular training sessions are being conducted for all bus crews to ensure they are well-versed in handling digital transactions. It further stated that all conductors have been directed to accept UPI payments and refusal of the same will attract strict action.

MTC Chennai urged commuters to report any instances of conductors not accepting UPI by noting the fleet number or registration number of the bus. The corporation assured that they would look into each case and take appropriate action.

  • Note the Fleet Number or Registration Number: If a conductor refuses UPI payment, make sure to jot down the fleet number or registration number of the bus.
  • Report the Incident: Share the fleet or registration number with MTC Chennai via their social media platforms or customer support channels.
  • MTC Will Investigate: MTC will investigate the issue and take necessary actions to address any misconduct by bus crews.
  • Strict Action Against Erring Conductors: MTC has also stated that if they find that any conductors are at fault, strict departmental actions will be initiated against them.
