Over 67 Crore Tickets Sold Through MTC Chennai Electronic Ticketing System in One Year
MTC Chennai Latest News: MTC Chennai electronic ticketing system completes one year. As of date, more than 67.80 crore tickets have been issued.

Chennai, March 2025 – MTC Chennai’s electronic ticketing system has successfully completed one year since its successful introduction on February 28, 2024.
The launch of Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) has provided Chennai commuters with a smarter, faster, and more convenient way to purchase tickets.
Initially introduced to simplify ticketing, the ETMs allow passengers to purchase their tickets using cash, cards, and UPI.
By June 1, 2024, the system was fully implemented across all 32 depots of MTC Chennai, making the process efficient and user-friendly for millions of commuters.
Since the introduction of ETMs, more than 67.80 crore tickets have been issued, and digital payments have gained significant traction, with 15.52 lakh tickets purchased via UPI, cards, and other digital modes.
The success of the MTC Chennai electronic ticketing system has also been bolstered by the launch of the Singara Chennai Card in January 2025. This card facilitates seamless travel on both MTC buses and Chennai Metro trains, and it has quickly gained popularity.
As of March 3, 2025, 4 lakh tickets have been sold using the NCMC cards, demonstrating a growing adoption of digital payment methods among commuters. As of now, digital transactions account for over 3.5% of the total daily ticket sales in Chennai.
With the introduction of electronic ticketing, MTC Chennai has taken significant strides towards improving its public transport system. The initiative aligns with the city’s broader vision to make transport smarter and more sustainable.
