SWITCH Mobility Secures Order for 650 Electric Buses Under PM E-Drive Scheme

SWITCH Mobility has secured an order for 650 electric buses under the Government of India’s PM E-Drive Scheme, marking one of the company’s largest wins in the public transport segment.
The buses will be deployed across Mumbai and Pune, strengthening the adoption of zero-emission public transport in Maharashtra.
The order comprises 9-metre SWITCH EiV9 low-floor electric buses in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned configurations. The buses will be supplied under the CESL PM E-Drive Phase II tender, secured by Sai Green Projects Pvt. Ltd. as the selected operator.
The buses will be deployed for the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking in Mumbai and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML). The deployment will support the government’s broader objective of accelerating electric mobility in urban public transport through the PM E-Drive initiative.
Commenting on the order, Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the contract reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting India’s transition towards sustainable public transportation. He added that the deployment would help deliver cleaner, quieter, and more efficient mobility solutions for commuters in two of Maharashtra’s largest cities.
The latest order further strengthens SWITCH Mobility’s presence in India’s rapidly expanding electric bus market. The company has been supplying electric buses to several state transport undertakings and city bus operators while continuing to expand its portfolio with platforms such as the recently unveiled EiV9 for urban and institutional transport applications.
The PM E-Drive Scheme has emerged as one of the key drivers of electric bus adoption in India by providing financial support for the procurement of electric buses by public transport authorities.
Orders of this scale are expected to accelerate fleet electrification while creating long-term opportunities for domestic electric bus manufacturers.
With the addition of 650 SWITCH electric buses, Mumbai and Pune are set to significantly expand their zero-emission public transport fleets, helping reduce urban emissions while improving the overall passenger experience through modern electric mobility solutions.
