SWITCH Highlights India’s E-Bus Export Capabilities at Mauritius Expo 2026

SWITCH Mobility has showcased an international variant of its flagship EiV12 electric bus at the Best of Bharat & Mauritius Expo 2026, using the platform to highlight India’s growing capabilities in electric bus manufacturing and exports.
The showcase comes just months after the Switch completed the delivery of 100 electric buses to the Government of Mauritius, widely regarded as the largest electric bus export from India to date. Most of the buses have already entered service with the National Transport Corporation (NTC), making Mauritius one of the most significant international deployment markets for Indian-built electric buses.
The participation reflects a broader trend emerging within India’s electric mobility sector, where manufacturers are increasingly looking beyond domestic demand and positioning themselves for global opportunities.
Mauritius Emerges as a Key Export Market
For SWITCH Mobility, Mauritius represents more than just an export destination.
The successful export of electric buses has provided the company with an opportunity to demonstrate the performance and reliability of Indian-built electric buses in an international operating environment. The Best of Bharat & Mauritius Expo 2026 offered another platform to strengthen engagement with government stakeholders, transport operators, and mobility decision-makers in the region.
As countries around the world accelerate the transition towards cleaner public transportation systems, export markets are becoming increasingly important for Indian electric vehicle manufacturers seeking long-term growth.
Switch EiV12 Designed for Global Operations
The vehicle displayed at the expo was a specially configured international variant of the SWITCH EiV12, a 12-metre fully electric bus developed for intracity and intercity applications.
The bus features a 48-seat layout and is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor delivering a peak output of 235 kW. It uses advanced LFP battery technology designed to perform in tropical and demanding climatic conditions.
According to the company, the platform can be configured with multiple battery options and offers a driving range of up to 300 kilometres.
Other features include CCS-2 DC fast charging, dual-gun charging capability, air suspension, floor-mounted battery architecture for improved stability, and an integrated Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS).
The bus is also equipped with SWITCH iON, the company’s connected vehicle platform that enables remote diagnostics, vehicle health monitoring, predictive maintenance, and fleet performance optimisation.
Beyond Manufacturing: Building Global Mobility Solutions
India’s electric bus industry has traditionally focused on domestic deployment through government-backed programmes and state transport undertakings.
However, the success of export projects such as the Mauritius deployment is beginning to demonstrate the international competitiveness of Indian electric bus platforms.
At the Busworld India Conclave 2026 earlier this year, industry leaders repeatedly highlighted the opportunity for India to evolve from a manufacturing base serving domestic demand to becoming a global supplier of advanced mobility solutions. The growing export activity by companies such as SWITCH Mobility reflects that shift in strategy.
Why This Matters
The significance of the Mauritius showcase extends beyond a single product display.
As global demand for zero-emission public transport grows, Indian manufacturers are increasingly being evaluated not only on cost competitiveness but also on technology, reliability, safety, and operational performance.
Successful international deployments create important reference projects that can open doors to new export markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and other emerging mobility economies.
For India’s bus industry, the story is no longer just about electrifying domestic fleets. It is increasingly about proving that Indian-built electric buses can compete and succeed on the global stage.
