8 Cities to Get 500 Electric Buses in Rajasthan by September 2024
Latest Electric Bus News: Rajasthan is set to roll out 500 electric buses across 7 key cities, enhancing sustainable urban transport. The electric buses in Rajasthan will be operated and maintained by the autonomous government department in collaboration with Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), a subsidiary under the Ministry of Power, New, and Renewable Energy.
Following a strategic review meeting with CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, officials from Rajasthan’s local self-government (LSG) department are fast-tracking the procurement of electric buses in Rajasthan under the Prime Minister E-bus Sewa Scheme.
Ramavatar Meena, chairman and managing director of Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd (JCTSL), affirmed that the state has submitted a proposal to acquire 500 e-buses for key cities including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner, and Bharatpur.
All necessary paperwork has been completed, with ongoing coordination with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to expedite the procurement process of electric buses in Rajasthan.
Electric Buses in Rajasthan Distribution Plan
Jaipur is set to receive 150 of the 500 electric buses in Rajasthan, with the remainder allocated to the other six cities. This initiative, overseen by JCTSL, aims to modernize the public transport fleet in Rajasthan, addressing current shortages and aging vehicles.
“Jaipur is slated to receive 150 of the 500 e-buses, while the remaining will be distributed among cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner, Bhilwara and Bharatpur,” stated a spokesperson from JCTSL.
The agency, representing the state government, will manage the distribution of these buses to municipal corporations, tackling significant shortages and improving the longevity of public transportation fleets.

Milestones and Operational Framework
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari approved financial backing for the electric buses in Rajasthan project just before the imposition of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
These electric buses will be operated and maintained by the autonomous government department in collaboration with Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), a subsidiary under the Ministry of Power, New and Renewable Energy.
“This initiative represents a major milestone as Rajasthan embarks on its inaugural foray into electric urban mobility,” emphasized a senior official overseeing the project. “It not only tackles our existing challenges with the bus fleet but also underscores our dedication to promoting a cleaner, pollution-free environment in urban regions.”
