5 Reasons Why Bus Drivers & Conductors Need to be Recognized as Frontline Workers
Their exposure to crowds and COVID-positive patients has increased their risk of infection manifolds, but that did not deter them from doing their duty.Â
Yet, over the past year, their contributions have been consistently overlooked. Â
Here are 5 reasons why the Indian Government needs to recognize bus drivers and conductors as COVID Warriors and Frontline workers and get them vaccinated on a priority basis.
1. The sheer number of strangers (read passengers) that bus drivers and conductors meet every day pushes them to increased risk of infection. But that does not deter them from doing their duty.Â
2. Buses across India are converted to ambulances/oxygen centers and in spite of being in close proximity to COVID +ve patients, they are doing their duty.
Â
3. Indian bus drivers & conductors have helped respective state governments to transport migrant workers, many of whom have tested positive.Â
4. They are helping other frontline warriors like nurses & hospital staff reach their destinations during lockdown.
5. Over the last year, many drivers and conductors were infected by the virus while on duty.
Don’t you agree that bus drivers and conductors in India should be recognized as COVID Warriors and Frontline Workers?
They should be given vaccines on priority just like other Frontline workers.Â
Do you agree??
If you do, share this post. Let other people know about the contributions of Indian bus drivers and conductors during these disruptive times.Â
