According to ADG (Law & Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, preliminary reports suggest that the truck driver’s rash driving and wrong-lane entry caused the collision.
The driver and the six rows directly behind him suffered the most impact, with nearly all passengers in that section of the bus losing their lives instantly. Both drivers died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses stated that the gravel spill engulfed the bus interior, trapping passengers. Rescue personnel had to cut open the mangled vehicle to retrieve victims and free survivors.
