German transit operator Rheinbahn has placed an order for 10 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, scheduled for delivery in 2025.

This initiative aligns with the city’s ambitious objective of achieving climate neutrality by the year 2035.

Solaris Bus & Coach, the renowned manufacturer, is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing Düsseldorf’s public transportation with these state-of-the-art hydrogen-powered buses.

Düsseldorf’s commitment to environmental sustainability is underscored by its adoption of a comprehensive strategy that integrates both battery-electric and hydrogen-powered units into its urban fleet.

The ordered hydrogen buses will not only contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions but will also operate on green hydrogen, produced exclusively from renewable electricity sources.

This holistic approach positions Düsseldorf as a frontrunner in embracing innovative and eco-friendly solutions to address its public transportation needs.

About the Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen Buses

The 12-meter hydrogen buses will feature cutting-edge technology, including a 70 kW Ballard hydrogen fuel cell, supported by Solaris High Power batteries.

Beyond the propulsion system, these vehicles will incorporate a range of safety features compliant with GSR2 requirements, prioritizing the well-being of both passengers and drivers.

Solaris‘s success in the German market is evident in its growing order book, with recent contracts secured in cities like Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Duisburg, and Gross Gerau.

The total number of hydrogen-powered buses, either supplied or ordered from Solaris, has already exceeded 700 units, signaling a strong industry preference for their eco-friendly and innovative solutions.

As Düsseldorf gears up to integrate these 10 hydrogen buses into its public transport network, it takes a significant stride towards a greener and more sustainable future.
