MTC Launches New Bus Services Connecting Chennai Airport to Akkarai and Kilambakkam
New Bus Services Connecting Chennai Airport to Akkarai and Kilambakkam have been launched by MTC. The news services offer affordable connectivity from the airport to key city locations via two dedicated routes – MAA1 and MAA2.

In a significant move to enhance public transportation options for air travelers, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has introduced two new bus services connecting Chennai Airport to Akkarai and Kilambakkam.
These services aim to provide convenient and affordable travel options for passengers arriving at the airport.
The buses will connect the Chennai International Airport to Kilambakkam’s Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) and Akkarai on the East Coast Road (ECR).
Buses heading to Kilambakkam will run at 15-minute intervals, while those bound for Akkarai will be available every 30 minutes.
The new bus routes offer direct connections from the airport to key destinations, reducing the need for multiple transfers and making travel more straightforward for passengers.
By providing budget-friendly alternatives to taxis and private vehicles, these bus services make it more economical for travelers to reach their destinations.
However, it has to be noted that currently only non-AC, low-floor buses are in operation. MTC officials have added that they will soon introduce AC bus services connecting Chennai Airport to Akkarai and Kilambakkam.

Where to Board?
Passengers landing at Chennai airport can now catch MTC buses right outside the international terminal’s arrival area.
This service is especially convenient for travelers with light luggage heading towards areas like OMR, Tambaram, Chromepet, and along the ECR corridor.
Future Plans and Considerations
Officials have indicated that additional routes may be introduced based on passenger demand. However, the availability of parking space at the airport remains a limiting factor in expanding the fleet.
Currently, non-AC, low-floor buses are in operation, with plans to introduce electric buses in the near future to further enhance service quality and environmental sustainability.
Earlier, MTC operated AC Volvo buses between Chennai Airport and Central, but the service was discontinued due to low demand.
