3 New Vidiyal Payanam Bus Routes Launched – MTC 66M, MTC 18S, and MTC 60
The Tamil Nadu government has launched three new Vidiyal Payanam bus routes that allow free travel for women. These routes include MTC 66M, MTC 18S, and MTC 60.
In a bid to enhance safe and free mobility for women commuters, the Tamil Nadu government launched three new Vidiyal Payanam bus routes on select city routes.
The services were flagged off on April 25 at Meenambakkam by S. Sivasankar, Hon’ble Transport Minister, and T.M. Anbarasan, Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Government of Tamil Nadu.
The initiative is designed to make public transport safer and more accessible for women, especially in fast-growing suburban regions like Kilambakkam.
Under the Vidiyal Payanam Scheme, launched in May 2021, women are allowed free travel on state-owned, ordinary fare buses, a move that has seen widespread appreciation and has significantly increased female ridership across Tamil Nadu.
