LeafyBus has partnered with Eicher Trucks & Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), to deploy 100 Skyline Pro E 13.5-metre electric intercity sleeper buses across major national routes.

The collaboration marks a significant step in advancing long-haul electric passenger transport in India and reducing the sector’s reliance on diesel-powered operations.

The deployment will take place in phases, with 35 electric sleeper buses scheduled to enter service by March 31, 2026. Initial operations will focus on high-demand intercity corridors, including Delhi–Dehradun and Delhi–Lucknow, along with additional routes planned as part of LeafyBus’s expanding electric mobility network.

The remaining buses will be introduced over the next 18 months as the company scales its nationwide operations. The fleet will be leased and supported by Enetra EV Private Limited under its electric bus leasing programme, designed to facilitate large-scale adoption of zero-emission transport solutions.

The partnership combines LeafyBus’ operational expertise in electric intercity services, Eicher’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities, and Enetra EV’s financing model to create a scalable and commercially viable electric bus ecosystem.

The initiative also represents a strategic move for the Volvo–Eicher joint venture as it expands into the intercity electric sleeper bus segment in India.

Teams from LeafyBus and Eicher are working closely on route planning, charging infrastructure deployment, uptime optimisation, and operational support to ensure reliable and comfortable long-distance travel for passengers.

The Skyline Pro E 13.5-metre electric sleeper bus has been designed with a strong focus on efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort.

The bus features a 36+D sleeper configuration with upper and lower berths, catering to the growing demand for premium overnight intercity travel. It is powered by a 400 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack coupled with a 235 kW permanent magnet motor, delivering performance suited for long-distance operations.

The vehicle is also equipped with front and rear air suspension systems, advanced braking technologies, and energy-efficient components to enhance ride quality and operational safety.

Commenting on the development, Rohan Dewan, Co-Founder of LeafyBus, stated that the transition to electric mobility requires solutions that are not only environmentally sustainable but also commercially practical.

He emphasised that the company is working toward building a national electric travel network supported by charging infrastructure and consistent operational reliability.

LeafyBus currently operates daily electric services on the Delhi–Dehradun corridor and plans to expand rapidly across multiple routes nationwide.
