- 41 electric buses planned across Rajasthan operations
- Over 11,000 tonnes CO₂ emissions reduction expected
- Focus on Scope 3 emissions from employee transport
- Part of broader net-zero and decarbonisation strategy
Hindustan Zinc Limited has launched Rajasthan’s first electric bus fleet at its Zinc Smelter Debari unit in Udaipur, marking a significant step in the company’s transition towards low-emission transport systems.
The buses were delivered by Tata Motors and the rollout is carried out in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd. This is part of a larger plan to deploy 41 electric buses across the company’s operations in the state.
The newly deployed electric buses will be used primarily for employee transportation, replacing conventional diesel-powered vehicles.
The company said the move targets Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions from activities such as employee commuting, an area often difficult for industries to control.
By shifting to electric mobility, Hindustan Zinc expects to avoid more than 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions over the contract period.
Debari E-Bus Rollout Marks First Phase of Larger Plan
The deployment at the Debari plant is the first phase of a broader rollout. Additional buses will be introduced across other operational sites as part of the 41-bus plan.
This marks one of the largest electric bus deployments by an industrial company in Rajasthan, reflecting a growing shift towards cleaner internal transport systems.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said the initiative aligns with the company’s long-term decarbonisation strategy.
He noted that the transition to electric mobility reflects a broader shift in industrial thinking, where sustainability is increasingly integrated into core operations.
The company has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Backed by Renewable Energy Push
Hindustan Zinc has been steadily increasing the share of renewable energy in its operations.
- Renewable energy currently accounts for around 18% of its total power mix
- A 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy agreement is in place
- This is expected to meet over 70% of total power requirements
- Initial supply under the agreement has already begun
The integration of electric mobility with renewable energy sources is expected to further strengthen the company’s low-carbon strategy.
The initiative is linked to the company’s commitments under the Science Based Targets initiative and its membership in the International Council on Mining and Metals.
Hindustan Zinc was also ranked as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025.
