Tata Motors has launched its new Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime bus range at Prawaas 5.0 in Gandhinagar, introducing a new generation of passenger buses focused on safety, comfort, ride quality and operating efficiency.

The new Tata Ultra Prime and Tata Starbus Prime range is aimed at three major passenger transport applications: school transportation, employee or staff mobility and tourism. The launch forms part of Tata Motors’ wider passenger mobility strategy, which at Prawaas 5.0 also included CNG, electric and last-mile mobility solutions.

What Is New in the Tata Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime?

Tata Motors describes the new buses as next-generation products with refreshed exterior styling and enhanced interiors. The company has also focused on the passenger experience, with improvements to ride quality, comfort and Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

The objective is to make the buses more refined in everyday operation, particularly for applications involving regular staff, school and tourism routes.

The safety package is another major focus.

More Than Just a New Bus Launch

The Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime launch was only one part of Tata Motors’ Prawaas 5.0 showcase.

The company displayed the Tata LPO 1620 CNG, positioned for intercity and intracity passenger transportation. Tata Motors says the CNG bus combines high passenger-carrying capacity with lower operating costs.

The Ultra Prime LPO 412 was presented as a premium platform for tourism and long-distance transportation, with an emphasis on ride comfort and passenger experience.

Tata Motors also showcased the Ultra Skool 9/9 EV, an electric school bus with fast-charging capability, extended operating range and advanced safety features. An optional paint scheme and graphics package has also been developed with neurodivergent children in mind.

Another notable product was the Ultra Prime RE Concept, which made its India debut at Prawaas 5.0. Tata Motors says the concept is intended for urban bus operations, with a focus on passenger comfort, operational reliability and fleet productivity.

The Magic EV, offering a claimed range of up to 120 km on a single charge, and the Winger Plus people mover for staff, institutional and tourism applications completed the passenger mobility display.

Tata Motors Focus on Fleet Uptime

For operators, the vehicle itself is only part of the ownership equation.

Tata Motors highlighted its network of more than 4,600 sales and service touchpoints across India. Its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 ecosystem includes 24×7 assistance, annual maintenance solutions and assured parts availability. The company also offers fleet management support and Tata Genuine Parts.

Speaking at Prawaas 5.0, Anand S, Vice President and Business Head Commercial Passenger Vehicles, Tata Motors, said the company’s showcase was built around evolving requirements in employee transport, leisure travel, school transportation and last-mile connectivity.

What the New Tata Bus Range Means

The Tata Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime launch is significant because Tata Motors is not positioning the new range around a single passenger application. Instead, the company is building a broader portfolio covering school, staff, tourism, intercity, intracity and last-mile mobility, with diesel/conventional, CNG and electric solutions appearing together at Prawaas 5.0.

For operators, the emphasis is increasingly moving beyond basic passenger carrying capacity. Safety technology, NVH, passenger comfort, uptime and operating economics are becoming equally important factors in the bus buying decision.
