- Air-conditioned interiors for comfortable city rides
- LED lighting to improve in-bus visibility and safety
- Music systems for a relaxed commute

A Legacy Returns
First introduced in the 1970s, the U-Special buses were a trusted mode of transport exclusively for college students, running on routes designed around key educational hubs.
They were particularly popular among Delhi University students and operated until the rise of the Delhi Metro. In March 2020, following the COVID-19 outbreak, the service was suspended.
“I used to travel from AIIMS to North Campus in the DTC U Special bus service every day. So, I basically used to spend at least four hours every day in these buses. This is so nostalgic!” says Avneesh Rathod, a Hansraj College alumnus.
Strengthening Public Transport for Youth
The reintroduction of the DTC U bus service is part of a broader initiative to restore confidence in public transport and offer a safe alternative for the city’s student population.
Planners indicate the DTC will soon release route maps and scheduling for the DTC U buses, which are expected to begin operations in time for the next academic session.
