Tata to deliver 148 Starbus electric buses to BMTC, further expanding Bengaluru’s eco-friendly public transport fleet with advanced mobility solutions for a sustainable future.
Tata Motors has clinched another deal to supply 148 Tata Starbus EVs to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
This order will be managed by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a fully owned arm of Tata Motors, which will oversee the provision, operation, and upkeep of the Tata Starbus EV, a 12-meter low-floor electric bus, for the next 12 years.
This new agreement builds on a previous contract for 921 electric buses, with the majority now in service, performing with an impressive uptime exceeding 95%.
The Tata Starbus EV is engineered with top-notch design and cutting-edge features to ensure a sustainable and passenger-friendly commuting experience.
These eco-friendly buses, built on advanced technology, are equipped with state-of-the-art battery systems, offering a safe, comfortable, and efficient travel option within Bengaluru.

Speaking on this development, Shri Ramachandran R., IAS, Managing Director of BMTC, expressed, “We are thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Tata Motors by adding these 148 electric buses to our fleet. To date, Tata Motors’ electric buses have covered over 25 million kilometers in Bengaluru, leading to a substantial cut in emissions, and reducing CO2 by about 14,000 tonnes.
