A detailed look at the TATA 1822/69 13.5 Meter sleeper bus chassis with seating capacity and engine specifications.

The first pair of Tata’s 13.5 meter buses have hit the road in India.

Built on Tata’s 1822/69 13.5 meter chassis, the buses have been fabricated by Goa-based private bus body builders Shree Damodar Coach Crafts Pvt. Ltd.

Back in June 2020, after the transport industry was stalled by the Covid-19 induced lockdown, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways issued a notification to pave the way for larger buses and trucks.

As per the new notification, the length of buses with two axles can now be up to 13.5 meters, instead of the earlier mandate of 12 meters.

For Tarmac and buses with three axles, the maximum permitted length was 15 meters. Essentially, this increased the seating capacity of buses by 15-20%.

Following this, the year 2021 saw OEMs Tata Motors Limited and Volvo launch their range of 13.5-meter bus chassis.

But it’s not until now that the first fully built 13.5 meter bi-axle buses have hit the road in India. 

The buses belong to Kolhapur based Sanjay Travels and are is plying between Pune and Nagpur.

The front-engine Tata 1822/69 13.5 meter bus chassis has specifically been built for long-distance inter-city purposes.

It is powered by Tata Cummins ISBe 5.6L BSVI engine that generates Max Power of 220 hp and Max Torque of 850 Nm.

The Tata 1822/69 13.5 meter bus chassis is certified for a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 18 tonnes. This assures customers of the best-in-class power-to-weight ratio.

Tata 13.5 Meter Bus Seating Capacity

Along with industry-leading fuel economy, performance, and comfort, the Tata 1822/69 13.5 meter bus chassis offers up to 20% extra seating and additional sleeper berth capacity with almost 25% increase in passenger luggage space.

The bus can accommodate up to 36 sleeper berths in 2×1 layout and can accommodate up to 60 passengers in a 2×1 sleeper/seater hybrid layout. 

In a seating 2×2 layout, it can accommodate up to 53 passengers
