Rajasthan Offers Free Bus Travel For Women On International Women’s Day

The government of Rajasthan has announced a special public transport initiative allowing women to travel free on buses across the state to mark International Women’s Day.
The decision is aimed at recognising the role of women in society while encouraging greater use of public transport.
The facility will allow women and girls to move freely across cities and towns using state-run and city bus services, reinforcing efforts to make mobility more inclusive and accessible.
Free Bus Travel Facility Across Rajasthan
Under the initiative, women passengers will be allowed to travel without paying fares on buses operated by the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC).
The benefit will also be available on city bus services run by Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL), which manages urban bus operations in Jaipur.
The free travel facility will remain valid for the entire day on Women’s Day, enabling women to travel across urban and rural areas without ticket charges.
Conductors will issue zero-fare tickets through electronic ticket-issuing machines or manual ticket books so that passenger records continue to be maintained.
Officials said the initiative is designed to promote mobility and provide women with easier access to public transport for daily travel, social activities, and personal errands.
Bus Services Covered Under The Scheme
The free travel facility will mainly apply to ordinary and express bus services operated by RSRTC within the territorial limits of Rajasthan.
These buses connect major cities as well as small towns and rural areas across the state.
Women passengers will be able to travel freely on state transport routes connecting destinations such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and several other towns served by the state transport network.
However, the facility will not apply to premium categories of buses such as air-conditioned services, Volvo buses and vehicles operating under all-India permits.
Women travelling on these services will still need to purchase regular tickets.
For buses that travel outside Rajasthan, the free travel benefit will remain valid only within the state boundary. Passengers travelling beyond the border will have to pay fares for the distance covered outside the state.

Preparations By Transport Authorities
Transport officials have started preparations to manage the expected increase in passenger numbers.
Special cleaning and washing of buses are being carried out to ensure a better travel environment for commuters.
Security arrangements are also being strengthened at bus stands and on major routes.
Additional personnel may be deployed at key bus terminals to maintain safety and manage passenger flow, particularly at busy intercity and urban stops.
Officials emphasised that providing a safe and comfortable journey for women passengers remains a priority during the special initiative.
Role Of Public Transport In Women’s Mobility
Access to reliable and affordable public transport is widely considered a key factor in improving women’s mobility. In many regions, safe transport systems allow women to pursue education, employment and social activities more easily.
In Rajasthan, buses remain an important link between villages, towns and major urban centres.
For many women in rural areas, public transport is often the primary means of reaching nearby cities for work, healthcare and education.
Temporary fare-free initiatives such as this are often introduced on special occasions to encourage greater use of public transport while highlighting the importance of mobility for women.
Broader Trend Of Women-Focused Transport Initiatives
The Rajasthan government’s decision to provide free travel on Women’s Day reflects this broader trend of promoting gender inclusion through mobility policies.
By allowing women to travel without fares for the day, authorities aim to highlight the importance of accessible public transport in enabling greater participation in social and economic life.
As thousands of women are expected to use buses across Rajasthan during the day, the initiative serves both as a symbolic gesture of recognition and a practical step toward encouraging women’s mobility and independence in everyday travel.
