In a significant move toward digital integration of public transport, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is preparing to launch an all-in-one aggregator-based passenger app. Named ‘Chhava Ride’, the new platform will enable users to book buses, autorickshaws, taxis, and electric buses—all through a single mobile application.

MSRTC ‘Chhava Ride’ App: Powered by Aggregator Policy Framework

The app is being developed under the central and state aggregator policy and was announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik during a recent high-level meeting. This development is part of Maharashtra’s larger push to modernise public transport and offer passengers seamless travel options.

“MSRTC is best suited to operate this app, offering commuters a transparent, government-backed alternative to private aggregators,” said Sarnaik.

Features and Scope of the Chhava Ride App

  • Multi-modal Booking: Enables users to book MSRTC buses, autos, taxis, and e-buses
  • Unified Platform: One-stop solution for urban and intercity mobility
  • Government-Operated: Brings transparency, pricing fairness, and safety
  • Revenue Stream: Expected to provide MSRTC with an additional source of income

The initiative is seen as a strategic response to growing concerns around the operations of private mobility aggregators, which the minister recently criticised for exploiting drivers and passengers.

Context: Clampdown on Private Aggregators

The announcement comes shortly after the Maharashtra government launched enforcement actions against several private mobility operators. In July, services like Uber Shuttle faced regulatory heat for operating without valid licences, highlighting the need for a regulated, official transport app.

MSRTC Embraces Digital Mobility Future

With the launch of Chhava Ride, MSRTC aims to reclaim ground in Maharashtra’s growing app-based mobility sector. The app will not only serve as a user-friendly interface for commuters but also as a tool to enforce compliance, improve service visibility, and promote clean and inclusive urban transport.

By creating a government-operated aggregator app, MSRTC sets a national precedent in merging public transport infrastructure with digital-first delivery, while reducing dependence on private aggregators. The launch date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
