MG Group unveiled its new Starz coach platform at Prawaas 5.0 in Gandhinagar, positioning the product between its established Glider range and the more premium Tigra. The new coach targets operators looking for a step up in comfort and styling without moving into the company’s highest-end coach segment.

Starz was developed through engagement with customers, fleet operators, and OEM partners. MG Group says the platform will cater to intercity travel, tourism, staff transportation and premium fleet operations, with diesel and alternative-fuel powertrain options planned.

Filling the Gap Between Glider and Tigra

The thinking behind Starz is relatively straightforward.

MG Group’s Glider has established itself across seater, sleeper and seater-sleeper applications, while the Tigra sits at the super-premium end of the company’s portfolio. According to Sivakumar V., President – Strategy & Sales, MG Group, operators were looking for a product positioned between the two.

That has shaped the Starz.

The coach gets a redesigned front fascia, new headlamps and upgraded exterior styling. Inside, MG Group has worked on colour themes, interior aesthetics and passenger space, including improved headroom.

Safety Is a Major Part of the Design

MG Group has placed considerable emphasis on safety with Starz.

The coach complies with AIS 153, along with applicable rollover, frontal-collision and dimensional requirements, according to the company. The structure has been reinforced at the front, while crumple zones have been designed to absorb impact forces. Materials used in the coach meet prescribed flame-retardant standards.

Fire protection varies by configuration. Sleeper versions receive fire detection and suppression systems, while seater-sleeper coaches feature fire alarm and protection systems.

Lightweight Engineering for Operators

MG Group has also focused on weight reduction.

The company says lightweight materials are used wherever safety requirements permit. According to Sivakumar, this approach is intended to support fuel efficiency and reduce tyre wear compared with heavier coaches operating on similar routes. These are company claims based partly on operator feedback, rather than independently verified performance figures.

For a commercial coach, the significance goes beyond fuel consumption. Vehicle weight can influence tyre life, operating economics and the amount of energy required to move the vehicle over a route.

A New Position in MG Group’s Coach Portfolio

Starz is also part of MG Group’s broader manufacturing expansion. The company operates facilities in Belagavi, Karnataka, and Zaheerabad, Telangana, with Belagavi focused on premium and super-premium coaches and Zaheerabad supporting higher-volume production across school, staff, institutional and economy segments.

The company said it had already secured an initial order for 50 Starz coaches following the Prawaas 5.0 launch. Bookings were scheduled to begin in July 2026, with deliveries to follow.

For MG Group, Starz is therefore more than another coach body. It represents an attempt to occupy the space between conventional intercity products and super-premium coaches, while bringing together passenger comfort, AIS 153 compliance, lightweight engineering and operator-focused economics.
