Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Lucknow double-decker bus service on November 9. This new addition is designed to cater to the growing demand for efficient, eco-friendly, and affordable transportation in the state capital.

As Uttar Pradesh’s first-ever electric double-decker bus, the initiative not only aims to ease congestion but also provides a greener, cleaner option for commuters.

Double-decker buses are designed to carry more passengers than regular buses, reducing traffic on the streets and enhancing travel efficiency.

The bus has been delivered by Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle arm Switch-Mobility on a GCC contract.

Women-Friendly Initiatives

In a move to encourage more women to use public transport, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a 50% discount on tickets for women traveling on the Lucknow double-decker bus.

Additionally, a special provision was introduced for free travel for women on buses operating on the heritage route every Saturday morning. These initiatives are part of the state’s broader effort to make public transportation more accessible and convenient for women.

The Lucknow double-decker bus is supplied by Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle division of Ashok Leyland.

This 9-meter long, 15-meter tall bus is equipped with a high-capacity 231-kWh battery, featuring advanced NMC chemistry and a dual gun charging system for faster recharging.

Designed for urban transport, it can carry up to 60 passengers and offers a range of up to 250 kilometers, making it well-suited for city commutes.
