KSRTC Set to Introduce Business Class Buses with Onboard Pantry and Hostess

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to introduce a premium Business Class bus service featuring an onboard pantry, toilet, and a dedicated bus hostess.
The announcement was made by Kerala Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, who said the service is expected to begin operations by March 15.
The new service is designed to elevate intercity travel in the state and will initially operate between Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, one of Kerala’s busiest transport corridors.
Announcement Made During Ernakulam Depot Event
The Minister announced the new service during the inauguration of the renovated KSRTC depot in Ernakulam. At the same event, the foundation was laid for the construction of a new KSRTC bus stand at Karikkamuri in Ernakulam.
Several public representatives and officials attended the event, including Hibi Eden MP, T.J. Vinod MLA, Kochi Corporation Mayor V.K. Minimol, Deputy Mayor Deepu Joy, and KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director P.S. Pramoj Shankar, among others.
Airline-Style Features Planned for the Buses
The upcoming Business Class buses will introduce several features that are uncommon in regular public bus services.
Passengers will be able to book meals when booking their tickets, ensuring meals are served during the journey. Each bus will include an onboard pantry and toilet, improving comfort during long-distance travel.
Another notable feature will be the introduction of a bus hostess, similar to an air hostess on aircraft, who will assist passengers during the journey and help manage onboard services.
The buses will operate with limited stops to ensure faster travel.
According to the Minister, the services are designed to complete the Kochi–Thiruvananthapuram journey in about four hours, significantly reducing travel time compared with conventional services.

Budget Tourism Expansion with Tamil Nadu
Alongside the Business Class bus announcement, the Transport Minister also revealed plans to expand KSRTC’s budget tourism services through an interstate agreement with Tamil Nadu.
Under this initiative:
- 50 KSRTC budget tourism buses will operate services to temples and tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu.
- In return, 50 buses from Tamil Nadu will operate pilgrimage services to Sabarimala starting from the first day of the Malayalam month.
The new Business Class buses are part of a broader effort by KSRTC to modernize public transportation and compete with private luxury travel operators. The service is expected to attract passengers looking for faster and more comfortable intercity travel options.
