KMC to Add 40 E-Buses by April 1

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced that 40 electric buses will be added to the Kolhapur Municipal Transport (KMT) fleet by April 1.

These buses are part of the 100 e-buses approved under the PM-eBus Sewa project by the central government.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the project, KMC administrator K. Manjulekshmi, KMC assistant commissioner Sanjay Sarnaik, and project officer P.N. Gurav visited Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to review the city’s e-bus operations and understand its management system.

Operational Plan for KMT’s E-Buses

  • Private Contractor Management: The e-buses will be operated by a private contractor.
  • Drivers & Conductors: The contractor will provide the drivers, while the KMT will assign the conductors.
  • Salary Payments: The contractor will pay the salaries of the drivers.
  • Ticket Pricing: Bus ticket prices will be fixed per kilometer.
  • Workshop Preparations: The Buddha Garden workshop in Shastri Nagar is being prepared for the new fleet.
