Hyderabad, April 15: In a harrowing incident near Kompally X Roads, a private bus operated by Kanker Roadways en route to Raipur caught fire just 30 minutes into its journey.

The incident unfolded on Monday night, leaving at least 15 passengers onboard grappling with the sudden peril.

The bus was reportedly traveling towards Raipur via Paradise and Suchitra when the incident occurred, reported Petbasheerabad inspector K. Vijaya Vardhan.

According to V Subhash Reddy, fire station officer at Jeedimetla, initial investigations point towards a short circuit as the likely cause of the Kanker Roadways bus fire.

The fire brigade received the distress call around 8 pm and rushed to the scene, but the bus was already engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

Reportedly, it was the quick thinking of the bus driver that saved the passengers. The driver swiftly alerted the passengers to evacuate the vehicle just in time, moments before the flames engulfed the bus.

Petbasheerabad inspector K. Vijaya Vardhan commended the driver’s prompt action, emphasizing that it averted potential casualties despite the bus being completely engulfed in flames.

While no casualties were reported, the passengers’ luggage suffered damage in the fire.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, summoning a fire engine to douse the blaze.

Authorities are now focusing on gathering more information about the travel agency operating the bus, as questions arise regarding safety protocols and maintenance standards.

Investigations continue into the exact cause of the short circuit and subsequent fire, with a spotlight on ensuring passenger safety in future journeys under Kanker Roadways’ operation.
