HRTC’s Revenue in 2024 Increases by 63 Cr: CM Sukhu
HRTC’s revenue in 2024 has experienced a significant boost, increasing by Rs 63.47 crore. This growth is largely attributed to consistent state funding and the corporation’s critical role in providing essential transportation services across Himachal Pradesh.
Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has reported a significant surge in its revenue in 2024, with an increase of Rs 63.47 crore during the first eight months of the year.
This growth was announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who attributed the success to the government’s continuous financial support and HRTC’s pivotal role in serving the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Factors Contributing to HRTC’s Revenue Growth
The increase in HRTC’s revenue in 2024 can be linked to consistent funding from the state government, which has been providing a monthly grant of about Rs 60 crore over the past two years.
This funding has ensured the timely payment of salaries and pensions for employees and retirees. Furthermore, HRTC’s daily operation, transporting approximately 5 lakh passengers across the challenging terrains of Himachal Pradesh, significantly contributes to the revenue growth.

Future Vision: A Greener HRTC
Looking ahead, Chief Minister Sukhu outlined a vision to transform HRTC into a more sustainable and self-sufficient entity. The state government plans to replace the current fleet of diesel buses with electric buses, backed by an investment of Rs 327 crore. T
his initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and fuel costs while supporting the state’s goal of becoming a Green Energy hub by 2026.
“The increase in HRTC’s revenue in 2024 reflects our commitment to making the corporation more efficient and self-reliant,” said Sukhu. “Every day, 5 lakh passengers depend on HRTC buses, making it the lifeline of the state.”
Enhancing Passenger Experience
In addition to the green initiative, the government has also focused on improving the passenger experience.
New bus stands are under construction, and cashless payment systems have been implemented, making Himachal Pradesh the first state in India to offer such a digital innovation in public transport.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also lauded the professionalism and dedication of HRTC employees, noting that their hard work has made the buses more comfortable and attractive for passengers.
As HRTC’s revenue in 2024 continues to show positive growth, the corporation’s future looks promising, with plans for further modernization and sustainability at the forefront.
