Conductor-Less PMPML Non-Stop Bus Service A Big Hit: To be Introduced on 20 More Routes
The conductor-less PMPML non-stop bus service that was introduced latetely has been welcomed with enthusiasm by daily commuters. This has prompted PMPL to launch it in more routes.
PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) is conducting a survey to identify additional routes within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits for expanding their PMPML Non-Stop bus service.
This decision comes after a positive response to the air conditioned, conductor-less bus PMPML non-stop bus service launched recently on two routes last month.
The goal of the non-stop bus service is to reduce the travel time for PMPML commuters who travel on long routes within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits.
The transport department has already identified 20 routes out of the approximately 200 that were being checked by PMPML for the extension of the non-stop bus service within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits.
Notably, the service involves buses running without conductors, requiring passengers to purchase tickets by themselves before boarding.
“We are very happy with the new conductor-less PMPML non-stop, conductor-less bus service. It is especially beneficial for office-goers and students like us who have to depend on PMPML for our daily commute,” said Ravi Dhende, a student.
PMPML officials have revealed that this initiative is expected to enhance connectivity for commuters traveling on longer routes within the PMRDA limits, with a focus on buses covering extended distances.
“This is definitely a positive step towards improving public transportation accessibility and efficiency in the region,” says another commuter.
PMPML Reopens Closed Routes and Introduces New Routes As Well
Over the last few months, the PMPML has been revamping its services in a bid to enhance service and boost ridership, which has been very warmly received by passengers.
From May 1 to September 1, 2023, PMPML has introduced 29 new routes, encompassing the following:
- Regular buses
- Weekend tourist bus services
- Metro bus shuttle services on routes to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad metro stations
Responding to public demand, PMPML has also reopened 17 routes in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Pune rural areas that were previously closed during the Covid-19 for low demand.
Last week, PMPML announced the expansion of the daily and monthly pass services to include the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) region as well.
Previously, the pass services were limited to the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The PMPML also launched the conductor-less non-stop buses on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to Bhosari route and Swargate to Hadapsar route in late August 2023.
About the Conductor-Less PMPML Non-Stop Bus Service?
The corporation launched the conductor-less PMPL non-stop buses on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to Bhosari route and Swargate to Hadapsar route in late August 2023.
These electric buses are conductor-less buses, meaning there is no conductor onboard to collect tickets. Commuters are required to buy tickets themself as they board the bus.
The PMPML non-stop bus service initially started with 2 services on the PMC to Bhosari route in August 23, 2023. The Swargate to Hadapsar PMPL non-stop buses were added in early September.
Due to the high demand and crowded buses during morning and evening rush hours on these routes, the buses became a big hit especially with students and office goers.
This prompted the PMPML to add 20 more routes.
Around 200 routes were being currently checked for the extension of the PMPML non-stop bus service within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits.
The company is urging commuters traveling one these routes to make the most of the affordable air-conditioned, conductor-less PMPML non-stop bus service.
