Budaun, UP, Oct 20: In a tragic school bus accident incident in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, a collision between a school van and a school bus resulted in five casualties, including four children and the van driver.

Budaun School Bus Accident: Overview
On October 30, 2023, a school bus carrying 40 students collided head-on with a school van in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the driver of the van died on the spot. Four other students in the van lost their lives.
In addition, a total of 14 students sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 AM. The school bus was carrying students from a private school to their homes.
Witnesses say that the bus driver was driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver tried to avoid the collision, but it was too late. The two vehicles collided head-on, and the school van was completely mangled.
All injured individuals were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities.
Badaun Police SSP OP Singh confirmed that 16 students were admitted to the hospital, with four of them succumbing to their injuries while 12 are in stable condition.
He emphasized the need for stricter vehicle checks to prevent overloading, particularly in vans used for student transportation.
“We are still investigating the matter. We regularly carry out checking for overloading of vehicles. Van is not safe for transporting school kids. We will ensure that vans are not used for transporting school kids,” said Singh.

Cause of the Budaun School Bus Accident
While the UP Police is still investigating the matter, initial reports suggest that the accident occurred when the bus was traveling on the wrong side of the road at high speed. Witnesses say that the bus driver was clocking high speed.
It has been revealed that the bus was being operated by a cleaning assistant, not the designated driver.
Furthermore, the van was carrying an excessive number of students, far surpassing its typical capacity of 10-12.
Both vehicles involved in the tragic incident have been impounded as investigations continue.
