BMTC Launches Vajra Sevices to Ramanagara & Kanakapura, Services Planned for Malur, Vijayapura and Solur

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has expanded its Vajra Volvo services to two new routes :

• Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) to Ramanagara
• Banashankari to Kanakapura

A total of 14 Vajra Volvo AC buses have been deployed on these two routes:

• Six on the Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic)–Ramanagara route
• Eight on the Banashankari–Kanakapura

The services, priced at ₹95 and ₹90 respectively, mark the corporation’s first operations nearly 40 km beyond the Greater Bengaluru Authority limits.

BMTC is also planning to add AC services to Malur, Vijayapura, and Solur within the next two to three months as part of its suburban expansion.

AC Bus Services Planned to Malur, Vijayapura and Solur

Building on this expansion, BMTC officials confirmed that the corporation is working on plans to introduce air-conditioned bus services to Malur, Vijayapura and Solur in the coming months.

According to officials, the corporation can run services up to 65 km from the city centre, enabling connectivity between Bengaluru and several developing suburban towns.

The corporation clarified that these services are intended to complement, not compete with, routes operated by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.

While KSRTC runs ordinary non-AC buses to many neighbouring towns, BMTC plans to focus primarily on premium AC bus services for commuters.

Expansion of BMTC’s Operational Area

The expansion follows a series of changes in BMTC’s operating jurisdiction. In 2014, the transport department increased the corporation’s operational radius from 20 km to 25 km beyond the city limits.

With Bengaluru’s rapid urban expansion and rising commuter traffic from surrounding towns, the operational boundary was further extended to 40 km beyond city limits last year.

Officials said the expansion was necessary as several towns around Bengaluru have grown into important residential clusters, with thousands of commuters travelling to the city daily for employment and other activities.
