CM Stalin to Launch Mini Bus Services Across Tamil Nadu on May 1

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu’s Transport Minister S S Sivasankar announced that Chief Minister M K Stalin will launch the state’s much-awaited mini-bus services on May 1.
The move is part of the government’s plan to expand transport options across Tamil Nadu and ensure connectivity reaches even the remotest areas of the state.
During a review meeting with transport officials from the southern regions, attended by Transport Chief Secretary Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru and District Collector MS Sangeetha, Sivasankar revealed that mini-bus services would soon be introduced throughout the state.
The initiative is aimed at extending transport services to every corner of Tamil Nadu.
Currently, mini-buses operate on 2,870 routes across the state, with 504 applications for route changes or migrations. In line with this expansion, 1,810 new routes have been identified, and 1,225 of these routes have already been published in the government gazette.
To further facilitate the rollout, an additional two-week extension has been granted for applications, especially from the southern and western regions.
Once all applications are reviewed, the new mini-bus services will be officially inaugurated by CM Stalin on May 1.
Minister Sivasankar emphasized that the government is treating transport as an essential service and highlighted that Tamil Nadu is ahead of other states in ensuring timely salaries for its transport employees.
