In a significant development ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched Odisha’s first-ever double-decker buses in Bhubaneswar along with hop-on hop-off (HOHO) buses.

The launch event, held at the Mo Bus Depot in Gadakana, Bhubaneswar, is part of the state’s ‘Viksit Odisha’ vision for sustainable urban mobility.

A total of five double-decker buses, ten HOHO buses, and 25 Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) electric buses were launched. These buses will ply in the capital region, enhancing connectivity and promoting eco-friendly transportation.

The double-decker buses in Bhubaneswar will operate on two key routes, while the HOHO buses aim to provide flexible and convenient travel options for tourists visiting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

These services, introduced by the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) under the Mo Bus initiative, are designed to provide convenient and environment-friendly travel options while reducing traffic congestion.

Features of Double-Decker Buses in Bhubaneswar

The newly launched double-decker buses in Bhubaneswar are designed to provide both comfort and a cultural experience for passengers. These buses are:

  • Fully Air-Conditioned: Ensuring a comfortable journey for commuters and tourists in all weather conditions.
  • Culturally Themed Designs: Adorned with vibrant illustrations depicting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, including:
    • Iconic landmarks like the Konark Sun Temple, Puri Jagannath Temple, and Dhauli Stupa.
    • Artistic motifs representing Odissi dance forms and traditional Odia art.
  • Spacious Seating: Each bus can accommodate up to 66 passengers, catering to both daily commuters and tourists.

Bhubaneswar Double-Decker Bus Routes

Bhubaneswar’s double-decker buses will operate on two routes, DD 1 and DD 2. DD 1 will ply between the Baramunda BSABT to the Puri Sea Beach, DD 2 will connect the Biju Patnaik International Airport to the new bus stand in Khordha.

The newly launched hop-on hop-off buses in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack provide a flexible and tourist-friendly travel option. Designed for sightseeing, these buses allow travellers to explore the city’s cultural and historical landmarks at their own pace.

  • Routes: 1-H, 2-H, 3-H, all originating and terminating at Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
  • One-Day Pass: Rs 200 (Unlimited travel on all HOHO routes)
  • Introductory Offer: Card fee of Rs 50 will be waived until January 31, 2025.
