MCV (MCV (Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles) has inaugurated its brand-new production facility for Volvo electric buses in Cairo on 16 September, marking a major milestone in Volvo’s European e-bus strategy.

The plant, dedicated to the Volvo 7900 electric bus and Volvo 8900 electric buses, has an annual production capacity of 1,200 units.

Volvo announced its partnership with MCV in September 2023, following the company’s decision to cease in-house production in Europe in March 2023 and adopt a contract manufacturing model with third-party bus body builders.

As per Volvo, “MCV began producing complete Volvo electric buses in 2024, even as the new facility was under construction, and the first buses have already been delivered to customers in Europe.”
