First Electric Bus in Poland Turns 10: PKM Jaworzno Expands Its Green Fleet
PKM Jaworzno celebrates 10 years since introducing the first electric bus in Poland with a new order for Solaris electric buses.

Ten years ago, the city of Jaworzno made history by launching the first electric bus in Poland – a Solaris Urbino 12 electric. This milestone marked the beginning of a major shift toward zero-emission transport, not only in Jaworzno but across the country.
Fast forward a decade, and PKM Jaworzno has become a national leader in sustainable urban mobility. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its electric journey, the city is doubling down on its green goals.
A new deal was signed with Solaris Bus & Coach for seven additional electric buses, all set to arrive in the first half of 2026.
Bought in 2015, the first electric bus in Poland has now covered over 700,000 kilometers, completely emission-free. It became more than just a vehicle; it was the spark that ignited Poland’s electric mobility movement. Its performance helped prove the viability of electric public transport, encouraging other cities to follow Jaworzno’s lead.
Zbigniew Nosal, CEO of PKM Jaworzno, reflected on this journey and stated“Ten years ago, we took a bold step with Mayor Paweł Silbert. Today, that decision defines how our city moves, cleaner, quieter, and smarter.”

From One Bus to a Leading Electric Fleet
What began as a single pioneering vehicle has grown into a robust electric fleet. Today, Jaworzno operates 49 electric buses, over 80% of its public transport services. These include 8.9-meter, 12-meter, and 18-meter models, offering flexibility for varied routes and passenger needs.
With the arrival of seven more 12-meter Solaris Urbino electric buses, that share will climb to 85%, placing Jaworzno among Europe’s most advanced zero-emission transit networks.
