As part of its CSR initiatives, the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) has flagged off 4 electric buses in Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal. The newly flagged-off electric buses in MANIT will offer transportation for students from hostels to administrative blocks, enhancing overall campus mobility and sustainability.
Four electric buses were officially inaugurated at the Radhakrishnan Auditorium (SAC) at MANIT Bhopal on July 28. The buses started operations from today.
The buses were provided as part of REC Limited’s corporate social responsibility program and aims to improve sustainable campus mobility.
The buses were flagged off by Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan, CMD REC, Prof. Karunesh Kumar Shukla, Director MANIT, and other dignitaries.
Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan was also honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award by MANIT Bhopal.
These four electric buses will facilitate student transport within the MANIT Bhopal campus, supporting a bike-free environment that enhances road safety and promotes sustainability.
The buses will shuttle students between hostels and administrative blocks, contributing to a greener and more organized campus.

No-Vehicle Days in MANIT Bhopal
In September 2023, MANIT Bhopal decided to introduce electric buses on campus, starting with the observance of “No-Vehicle Day” every Friday.
On this day, both faculty and students are encouraged to avoid using their vehicles, while on other days, only students are requested to comply.
“We aim to gradually transform the campus into a ‘no-vehicle zone.’ We’ve initiated this by designating Fridays as no-vehicle days. Currently, this is voluntary, and we have requested cooperation from both faculty and students,” stated MANIT Director, Professor KK Shukla.
In 2016, MANIT imposed a total ban on hostellers bringing vehicles inside the campus due to several fatal road accidents involving students.
However, the ban was revoked shortly after due to student protests.
