Romania to electrify public transport with 40 Solaris buses in Galati

Soon there will be 40 electric Solaris buses in Galati, Romania

Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., one of the leading European electric bus manufacturers, has won a contract to supply 40 modern electric buses to Galati, a city in eastern Romania.

The city authorities selected to deploy the Solaris buses in Galati through a competitive tender process.

The delivery includes 20 battery electric buses in a 9-meter version and another 20 buses with a length of 12 meters.

These are not the first Solaris buses in Galati. In 2021, the European electric bus manufacturer delivered 20 low-emission hybrid buses, and in 2023, they provided 12-meter trolleybuses.

As a key player in the country’s public transport sector, there are more than 600 Solaris buses in Romania as of date.

Notably, 60% of these vehicles are zero-emission electric buses and trolleybuses.

Solaris will deliver a total of 40 battery electric buses to Galati. This includes 20 9-meter Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric buses and 20 12-meter buses.

The 9-meter Solaris buses in Galati are tailored to accommodate 59 passengers, while the 12-meter bus can carry 74.

Both the bus variants will feature efficient air conditioning equipped with a heat pump to maintain comfortable temperatures onboard.

Additionally, all the Solaris electric buses will be equipped with a Mobileye Shield Fisheye system, meeting GSR2 requirements

This system will issue warnings regarding pedestrians and bicyclists in front of the vehicle and within the blind spots on the right and left sides. It also includes an intelligent speed assistant.

The Solaris electric buses destined for Galați will feature Solaris High Energy batteries known for their high energy density and capacity, providing the vehicles with an extensive range.

These batteries can be recharged in two ways: via a plug-in connector, typically utilized at depots for overnight charging, and through an inverted pantograph mounted on a charging mast.

The latter offers a fast and maintenance-free charging solution, commonly employed directly at stops along the route.

As Solaris buses become an integral part of Galati’s public transportation network, the city takes a significant stride towards achieving its sustainability goals.
